Lucky Bamboo Care
It's easy. The following instructions are lifted from here. In a nutshell, give the bamboo lots of fresh, clean water and only indirect sunlight.
Sunlight
Just say no! Lucky bamboos prefer very little sunlight. The more indirect, the better. Too much sunlight can cause burning or browning of the tips. Matt learned this himself, but after moving his bamboo away from light, it turned green again.
Water
Always must be moist! Keep in either water or a soil that retains moisture. Some recommend a supplement, but the decision is yours.
If your water has chlorine, leave the water out overnight before using it. Similarly, if your water has fluoride, it is best to filter it first.
Change water every 7 days. Replenish water every 3-4 days. Take the entire arrangement apart occasionally and rinse off all components.
Succulents
These instructions are lifted from here because that's the website that popped up first - haha.
Replanting
As great as the shot glasses may seem, your succulent will be much happier in a new home.
- Consider their shallow roots and either use a short pot or fill the bottom with clay, stones, styrofom to facilitate drainage.
- Use minimal water to avoid fungal rot but with a greater frequency when the plant is little.
- Use a fast-draining dirt such as cactus or palm dirt.
Light
Filtered sun majority of day, or 1-2 hrs of direct sunlight each day.
If they are going to be in direct sunlight (i.e. summer) gradually work them up to this:
- 1st week: 1-2 hrs/day
- 2nd week: 3-4 hrs/day
- 3rd week: full light
Temperature
They can tolerate temperatures down to 40 degrees F (although we recommend 50-55 degrees F as a low) They prefer temps in the 70's to ~85 (don't we all?)
Water
Warm months: Water thoroughly then let soil go dry before rewatering.
- Check that moisture is present an inch or two below the surface.
- Err on the side of caution – they are more tolerant of dry conditions than too moist!
Cooler months: Less water & less deeply
